Licorice Root

Licorice root has been used medicinally for over 4,000 years. Found in the tomb of Egyptian Pharaoh Tutankhamun, it was valued so highly it was taken into the afterlife. Alexander the Great gave it to his troops to sustain energy during long marches. The ancient Chinese classified it as a superior herb in the Shennong Bencao Jing and called it 'the great detoxifier.' Napoleon Bonaparte was reportedly addicted to licorice.
