Lion's Mane

In ancient China, lion's mane was reserved for Buddhist monks and emperors as a prized tonic for the mind and spirit. Buddhist monks consumed it to enhance meditation and improve concentration. It is documented in the oldest known Chinese pharmacopoeia, the Shennong Bencao Jing, as a tonic for the five internal organs. Japanese samurai also prized it, calling it 'yamabushitake' after the Yamabushi monks who wore distinctive straw vests resembling its shaggy appearance.
