Maca

Maca has been cultivated in the Andes for over 2,000 years at altitudes above 14,000 feet where almost nothing else will grow. Incan warriors consumed it before battle for strength and endurance, and the plant was so valued that it was used as currency. Spanish conquistadors, unable to keep their horses healthy in the thin mountain air, were taught by Incan farmers to feed them maca root, restoring the animals' fertility and vitality.
