Meadowsweet contains natural salicylates (aspirin-related compounds) and is generally avoided in pregnancy for the same reasons aspirin is avoided.

Salicylate content means it's generally used cautiously during breastfeeding.

Children

Avoid

Salicylate-containing herbs are avoided in children and teenagers recovering from viral illness due to a theoretical Reye's syndrome risk.

Interactions & contraindications

Always dilute in a carrier oil before topical use — never apply undiluted essential oil directly to skin. Some oils (citrus especially) increase sun sensitivity; avoid sun exposure on treated skin for 12+ hours. Do not ingest essential oils without guidance from a qualified practitioner.

Aspirin, NSAIDs, blood thinners

Contains natural salicylates — additive effect with other aspirin-like drugs.
