Oregano (Greek) Oil
topical
Conditions addressed
How to use
- Dilute in a carrier oil (2–3% dilution) before applying to skin.
- Patch-test first.
Pregnancy, Breastfeeding & Children
Pregnancy
Use CautionCulinary seasoning is fine; concentrated oregano oil/extract is generally avoided in pregnancy due to a traditional emmenagogue reputation and limited safety data at medicinal doses.
Breastfeeding
Likely SafeNormal culinary use is considered compatible with breastfeeding.
Children
Use CautionCulinary amounts are fine; oregano oil is very concentrated and should never be given undiluted or internally to young children.
Interactions & contraindications
Always dilute in a carrier oil before topical use — never apply undiluted essential oil directly to skin. Some oils (citrus especially) increase sun sensitivity; avoid sun exposure on treated skin for 12+ hours. Do not ingest essential oils without guidance from a qualified practitioner.
May affect immune activity
Watch for: Immunosuppressants (for transplant or autoimmune conditions)
Immune-stimulating herbs can work against immunosuppressive therapy.
