Chopchini (Smilax china) is a herb used in the Ayurveda tradition to help with Arthritis, Skin Health, Inflammation, and UTI. The aerial parts and leaves are the parts traditionally used, used both internally and topically.

Botanical background

Smilax china is a climbing plant species in the genus Smilax. It is native to China, Korea, Taiwan, Japan (including Ryukyu and Bonin Islands), Philippines, Vietnam, Thailand, Myanmar, and Assam. Common names for the plant include China root.

Tea / Infusion

1–3 cups daily
  • Steep 1–2 tsp of dried Chopchini in freshly boiled water for 5–10 minutes.
  • Cover while steeping.
  • Strain and drink.

20–40 drops in water, 2–3× daily
  • Pack dried Chopchini into a jar and cover with 40–60% alcohol.
  • Seal and steep for 4–6 weeks, shaking daily.
  • Strain and store in a dark dropper bottle.

  • Grind dried Chopchini into a fine powder.
