Dandelion

Though dismissed today as a garden weed, dandelion was cultivated as medicine for centuries. Ancient Chinese herbalists used dandelion to treat breast problems, appendicitis, and digestive issues as far back as 659 AD. Arab physicians documented its use in the 10th century. Early European settlers deliberately brought dandelion seeds to America for medicinal and culinary use. Entire books were written on the dandelion by 18th century herbalists.
