Mako (Mangrove) (Rhizophora mangle) is a herb used in the Hawaiian & Polynesian Medicine tradition to help with Wound Healing, Diarrhea, Fever, and Skin Health. The aerial parts and leaves are the parts traditionally used, used both internally and topically.

Botanical background

Rhizophora mangle, the red mangrove, is distributed in estuarine ecosystems throughout the tropics. Its viviparous "seeds", in actuality called propagules, become fully mature plants before dropping off the parent tree. These are dispersed by water until eventually embedding in the shallows.

  • Steep 1–2 tsp of dried Mako (Mangrove) in freshly boiled water for 5–10 minutes.
  • Cover while steeping.
  • Strain and drink.

  • Pack dried Mako (Mangrove) into a jar and cover with 40–60% alcohol.
