Sangre de Grado (Croton lechleri) is a herb used in the Andean & Incan Medicine tradition to help with Wound Healing, Diarrhea, Inflammation, and Skin Health. The aerial parts and leaves are the parts traditionally used, used both internally and topically.

Botanical background

Croton lechleri is a species of flowering plant in the spurge family, Euphorbiaceae, that is native to northwestern South America. It is commonly known as sangre de grado (Peruvian Spanish), sangre de drago (Ecuadorian Spanish) or sangre de grada (Bolivian Spanish) , both of which translate to "dragon's blood". They refer to this tree's (and several related species') thick red latex.

Tea / Infusion

1–3 cups daily
  • Steep 1–2 tsp of dried Sangre de Grado in freshly boiled water for 5–10 minutes.
  • Cover while steeping.
  • Strain and drink.

20–40 drops in water, 2–3× daily
  • Pack dried Sangre de Grado into a jar and cover with 40–60% alcohol.
  • Seal and steep for 4–6 weeks, shaking daily.
  • Strain and store in a dark dropper bottle.

  • Grind dried Sangre de Grado into a fine powder.
