Aromatherapy Diffusion
Diffusing essential oils into a room to support mood and relaxation.
30-60 minutes per session.
As desired, daily is fine.
About this practice
Aromatherapy uses the scent of essential oils, dispersed via a diffuser, to influence mood and relaxation through the strong connection between smell and the brain's emotional centers. It's a low-effort addition to an evening wind-down routine or workspace.
How to do it
- Choose an oil suited to your goal — lavender or chamomile for relaxation, citrus or peppermint for alertness.
- Add a few drops (follow your diffuser's instructions) to water in an ultrasonic diffuser.
- Run it in a well-ventilated room for 30-60 minutes rather than continuously all day.
- Keep diffusers out of reach of pets and young children, and away from anyone with respiratory sensitivities.
- Rotate scents occasionally — constant exposure to one scent reduces how noticeable it is over time.

Cautions
- Keep essential oils away from pets — many (especially cats) are sensitive to diffused oils.
- Avoid if pregnant without checking which oils are appropriate.
