High-dose garlic supplements inhibit platelet aggregation and thin the blood. Use with caution alongside warfarin, aspirin, or other antiplatelet/anticoagulant drugs. Discontinue 7 days before surgery.
Tea Tree Oil (10% topical)
Melaleuca alternifolia
Clinical trials demonstrate tea tree oil 10% equivalent to clotrimazole 1% for tinea resolution. Effective against Trichophyton, Microsporum, and Epidermophyton dermatophytes.
Preparation:
- Dilute to 10% in coconut oil (1 part tea tree to 9 parts coconut oil β coconut has additional antifungal lauric acid).
- Apply to lesion and 1 cm beyond the edge.
- Apply 2Γ daily.
Dosage:
- Apply 2Γ daily.
- Continue for 2 weeks AFTER the lesion appears cleared β dermatophytes persist in stratum corneum after visual clearance.
Avoid if:
- 10% for 3y+; 5% for under 3y
- Not near eyes
- Never ingest
Neem Oil (topical)
Azadirachta indica
Nimbidin and azadirachtin in neem oil have proven antifungal activity against dermatophytes β particularly useful for tinea capitis (scalp ringworm).
Preparation:
- Mix neem oil 1:1 with coconut oil.
- Apply to ringworm lesion 1β2Γ daily.
- For scalp: apply as hair oil, leave 1β2 hours, wash off.
Dosage:
- Apply 1β2Γ daily.
- For scalp: 2β3Γ weekly.
- Continue for 2β4 weeks.
Avoid if:
- Strong smell β dilute well

Garlic (topical and internal)
Allium sativum
Ajoene from garlic was found equivalent to terbinafine in one clinical trial for tinea pedis. Topical and dietary garlic provides dual antifungal pressure.
Preparation:
- Topical: crush 1β2 garlic cloves, mix with coconut oil (1:2), apply to lesion.
- Wash off after 20β30 minutes.
- Internal: 2β4 cloves in daily cooking.
Dosage:
