Qigong

Gentle repetitive movements and breathwork rooted in Traditional Chinese Medicine.

10-20 minutes per session.
Daily or most days of the week.

About this practice

Qigong ('life energy cultivation') combines slow repetitive movement, breath regulation, and focused intention. It's practiced in TCM as a way to support the body's energy (qi) circulation, and modern research links it to reduced stress, better balance, and improved immune markers.

How to do it

  1. Start standing with feet shoulder-width apart, knees soft, and weight evenly distributed.
  2. Choose a simple set (e.g. 'eight brocades') to learn the basic movement patterns.
  3. Move slowly and rhythmically, syncing each movement with a slow inhale or exhale.
  4. Keep attention on the sensation of breath and movement rather than external distractions.
  5. Finish with a minute of quiet standing, letting the breath return to normal.
